Little Makers Project

Coming Soon!

Here at Wolf Creative, this is what we think…

Making stuff is awesome! Drawing, painting, constructing, whittling, carving, knitting, weaving, sewing, welding, smithing, or throwing. It’s all important.

Unfortunately, we live in a time when phones, tablets, computers, and TVs are increasingly getting harder to ignore. Screen time is no longer a question of if, but how much? Social media has far more cons than pros. The internet is mostly terrible. And, honestly, we don’t really see a future where AI is going to solve more problems than it creates.

And, who is affected by this the most? Our children. As arts and trade programs disappear from schools at alarming rates, our kids are spending more and more time indoors and behind screens, where “learning” is broken down into short, seconds-long clips without any real context. In short, our children are no longer learning the art of crafting.

Because of this, Wolf Creative is passionate about our Little Makers Project, an initiative that rallies our communities around our kids, teaching them the importance and joy of making something with their own two hands. Little Maker events are designed to guide kids through a simple woodworking project that can be completed in one class. Whether it’s making a cutting board, a jigsaw puzzle, or crafting a Viking Chair, each “little maker” will learn about the methods and tools necessary to finish their project. Over time, the goal is to foster the technical skills, safety knowledge, and critical thinking necessary for each child to start designing their own projects based on their ideas and passions.

We don’t have it all figured out, but we think the feeling you get when sitting in a tree house you built yourself is a pretty good start…

Little Maker Project Goals

  • ✺ SKILLS

We want little makers to understand the basics of hand and power tools and understand when and how to correctly use them.

  • ✺ SAFETY

We take an age-appropriate approach to using tools safely. Each little make will learn proper handling and usage of tools, the importance of personal protection equipment, and how to keep themselves and others safe in the shop.

  • ✺ DESIGN

We take little makers through the entire process of a project, showing them how putting some thought into a design will lead to a better outcome.

  • ✺ COMFORT

Projects are designed to expose little makers to a variety of different tools and techniques so, over time, they gain a level of comfort working on more complicated pieces.

  • ✺ FUN

The ultimate goal! We want little makers to be excited about using their hands to build something that matters to them. Bring a good attitude, maybe a few jokes, an let’s build something!

  • ✺ COMMUNITY

We want little makers and their families to feel like they belong to a community. Our hope for these events is to foster friendships and outreach to our neighbors.
